13.04.2017  NovSU Polytechnic College honores memory of its graduate Sergey Kononov

On April 12 at the memorial plaque established on a facade of the NovSU Polytechnic College, the meeting in memory of Sergey Kononov, the graduate of the college, the soldier- internationalist, who was killed in the line of duty in the North Caucasus and posthumously awarded with the Order Courage. The meeting, which was opened by the Director of the College Vladimir Shultsev, was attended by more than one hundred people. The tribute to the memory of the hero was paid by representatives of the Military Unit No. 5491, parents, students and teachers of the college, veterans, friends and Sergey's colleagues.

The events continued with a basketball match between teams of Polytechnic College and the Military Unit No. 5491 on S. Kononov's cup and the streetball tournament. It was attended by the students from NovSU Polytechnic College, NovSU School of Electronic and Information Systems, Agrotechnical College, Chemical-Industrial College. 

FOR REFERENCE: Sergey Vladimirovich Kononov was born on February 8, 1976 in Novgorod. In 1991 after graduation of secondary school No. 24, he entered the Novgorod Technical College of Electronic Industry (today – NovSU Polytechnic College) for "Operation of the Equipment for Production of Radio Components and Radio Components" program. In February 1995, he has successfully finished the program. Sergey was a good student and  excellent athlete. He took an active part in the social and sport life of the technical school, for which he was repeatedly encouraged (prizes, letters, gratitudes). Calm, balanced, modest young man. Enjoyed respect and authority among his classmates. In the attitude towards people around, he always was valid, precautionary also well-mannered young man. He planned to enter the Voronezh High School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In 1995 he was drafted into the ranks of the Armed Forces. He served in Chechen Republic, the city of Gudermes. 

In April 1996, while executing the fighting task during counter-terrorist operation in Gudermes, sniper Sergey Kononov has been killed.
