17.03.2017  Media about the Symbolical Equity of Culture

On March 16, the visiting session "Media about the Symbolical Equity of Culture" organized jointly by Novgorod State University and St. Petersburg State University within the 16th International conference "Media in the modern world. Young researchers" took place at the NovSU School of Humanities.

It was organized by the Chair of the NovSU Department of Journalism Tatyana Kaminskaya, professor of Department of Journalism Tatyana Shmelyova and the associate professor of the Theory, History and Pilosophy of Culture Natalya Fedotova. 

The session "Media about the Symbolical Equity of Culture" became the platform for exchange of scientific opinions between journalists and culture experts. Young researchers made reports on the territory of Veliky Novgorod because our city has a rich cultural equity, and media as the key communicative mechanism of capitalization of culture play especial role in preserving and capital accumulation of culture.  

The visit of delegation from St.Petersburg State University to Veliky Novgorod began with an excursion on the Kremlin and Torgovaya Storona, which was brilliantly carried out by professor of department of journalism Tatyana Shmelyova. 

Topics of scientific reports by students of St. Petersburg State University and Novgorod State University covered national, cultural and regional identity, an intertextuality in media lighting a fashion industry, roles of journalists in preserving cultural heritage, etc. Report  by graduate student of the St. Petersburg State University from China about the cultural conflict connected with different identification paradigms of China and Hong Kong in media was of special interest.  

A report "Symbolical Markers of Veliky Novgorod in Reflection of Regional Media" by Margarita Muravyeva, the NovSU graduate student, the future culture expert, was recognized as the best one. Margarita is a member of a research group of the project supported by the Russian Humanitarian Scientific Fund and the Novgorod region (No. 17-13-53001 "Note the Symbolical Equity of the Place as Competitive Advantage of the Territory").

It should be noted that a conference "Media in the modern world. Young researchers" is one of the largest and dynamically developing Russian platforms for communication of young researchers and experts in journalism, advertising and public relations. Annually, hundreds of the most talented and initiative students from different regions of Russia and other countries participate in a conference.
