The collection of
scientific articles "Lermontov and History" based on the materials
of the international scientific conference which took place in Veliky Novgorod
on 14-16 October 2013, has the edition of 300 copies. The executive editor is
Vyacheslav Koshelev, the Professor of NovSU.
The conference opened a
series of events dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Mikhail Lermontov,
which celebration is in 2014.
The topic determined in
the title of the conference and the collection brought together philologists
and historians to discuss a number of important issues arising in connection
with Lermontov’s interpretation of historical
events and realities. This includes some historical myths about the Novgorod
Republic, the Patriotic War of 1812, the
Caucasian war, etc. The second aspect of the research is connected with the peculiarities
of poet’s creativity perception and biography in the XX-XXI centuries and
appearing of "Lermontov’s" myth in Russian culture.
The structure of the
collection reflects both aspects. It consists of two parts: "Historical Realities
and Allusions in Lermontov's Creative Heritage"
and "Lermontov as a Cultural Hero of XIX-XXI Centuries".
Diversity in topics,
research methodology and style of materials will stimulate further study of
this remarkable Russian poet.
