27.09.2018 The International conference "Novgorodica-2018" opened in Antonovo On 26 September, the VIth International scientific conference "Novgorodica-2018: The Daily Life of Novgorodians: History and Contemporaneity" opened at the NovSU School of Humanities. The topic of the conference brought humanitarians of various specialties together – historians, lawyers, philosophers and political scientists, psychologists, specialists in modern communication. 130 scholars from Veliky Novgorod, various regions of Russia, countries of near and far-abroad took part in the three-day conference. Representatives of the national leading scientific institutions - Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg University, Higher School of Economics, Rostov, Orel, Altai, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Voronezh, Samara, Pskov, Syktyvkar universities) came here. Prior to the beginning of the conference, the organizers and participants of the international meeting answered the journalists' questions. In particular, the acting rector of Novgorod State University Yury Borovikov commented on the role of the University in today’s life of Novgorodians, the region society’s diversity and harmony. Alexander Ranne, archpriest, clergyman of the Cathedral of St. Sophia, the vice-rector of Novgorod Religious School, gave his opinion on the spiritual component of the daily Novgorodians’ life. The professor of NovSU Boris Kovalev, for his part, underlines the daily life realities’ permanence and the importance of learning from the past. The journalists questioned what Novgorodians complained about in the past, and whether their problems coincide with today's ones. The head of the project "Novgorodica-2018", professor Tatyana Shmeleva referred to the most recently found birch bark manuscript, which contains a lady’s wish to obtain a fur coat: “As we see, ladies’ queries have not changed”. T. Shmeleva also emphasized that the conference "Novgorodica" general scientific concept is bringing national and international scientists’ efforts together to study comprehensively Novgorod as a historical and cultural phenomenon of Russian history.
