09.05.2020  The family of a NovSU faculty member has been caring for a war grave in the village of Edrovo

For many years, the family of associate professor of the NovSU Department of Management Technologies Irina Aleksina has been caring for the war grave of the commander of the fighter squad Grigory Yakovlevich Shishov. He was killed in battle on 17 January 1942 and buried in the village of Edrovo, Valdai region. A short while ago, the war grave was put in order again, but what is also important – the family collected information about the division, in which the pilot fought.

By the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of 5 November 1940, the 7th, 203rd and 204th heavy bomber aviation regiments became part of the 51st long-range bomber aviation division located at the Edrovo airfield, one of whose regiments took an air battle over Brest Fortress on the very first day of Great Patriotic War.

Since the beginning of the war, the division participated in battles on the North-Western Front, the Battle of Moscow and Stalingrad but also carried out long-distance raids on the bombing of Romanian oil fields.

By the order of the People's Commissar of Defense for the courage shown in battles with the German invaders, for the sustained power, courage and heroism of the military personnel, the division was transformed into the Second Guards Aviation Long-Range Sevastopol Division.
