20.03.2018  Visit of professors from Appalachian State University (North Carolina, the USA) to Novgorod State University

On March 19, the visit of Appalachian State University professors to NovSU has begun with the meeting with Vladimir Trifonov, a director of the School of Economics and Management. During this meeting the project participants told about the history of cooperation development among the universities and shared their plans for the future.

On the American delegation:

• Barbara Howard, an Associate Professor, Program Director of School Administration, Reich College of Education;
• Lee Ball, a director of Sustainability Department;
• Herb Brown, a Professor of Career and Technical Education, Educational Media and Instructional Technology, Reich College of Education;
• Paul Wallace, an Associate Professor of Instructional Technology, Reich College of Education.

The goal of the visit is to develop joint online-courses using quality standards of e-courses and principles of Universal Design that will make them available for the students of all categories including the students with disabilities, geographically remote students and people of “Third Age”.

These courses will become a part of joint Graduate Certificate online-program “International Virtual Team Leader”, which is to be launched in the fall semester of 2018. The project is being implemented under the Memorandum of Agreement.

Participants of the project on the part of NovSU are :

• Tatiana Kudryashova, the deputy director of the School of Economics and Management, Head of Applied Economics Department;
• Natalya Shaydorova, Head of International Relations Office, Associate Professor of Sociology and Bilingual Education Department;
• Natalya Ilyashenko, senior public relations specialist of International Relations Office, Associate Professor of Applied Economics Department;
• Rinat Zalilov, an Associate Professor of Public Health, Medical Care and General Hygiene, Head of health information technology training-scientific laboratory.

The cooperation with Appalachian State University is being successfully implemented since 2011. Since that time two NovSU students and four ASU students studied during one term at the partner universities, two study abroad programs  were organized for American students, working visits and professors’ internships are also being implemented. A joint online-course “Cross-Cultural Business Communication” was designed and successfully piloted.
