27.03.2018  Students' “Parallel” theatre premiered John Patrick's play

On March 26, the premiere of “Everybody Loves Opal” by John Patrick was shown in the NovSU Polytechnic College. The performance was dedicated to the World Theatre Day.

The students from the first to the fourth courses of  Polytechnic College were involved in the performance, directed by Vera Verkau, the producer, and Lyudmila Sokolova, the art-director.

“Our theatre school was established in 2001 and this is its 17th season. Since then dozens of students have taken part in the performances of the Parallel theatre. We stage both foreign and Soviet classics, and a lot of military settings. In view of weather outside the window, there is daily grind and melancholy in the eyes of people, and that is why a comedy will be put on a stage today. “Everybody Loves Opal” is a burlesque story in the best American traditions, where there is a great deal of subtle humor and actors' self-reinventions. Unexpected twists of characters' fate make us sympathize, cry and laugh” – Lyudmila Sokolova told us before the premiere.

The scene, which reminds us of a Christmas tale about all-conquering power of good, takes place in Mrs. Opal's shabby house. Love, kindness, human worth and dignity – all these ephemeral values seem to appear a far more meaningful than tangible material values. 

It should be noted that the conference hall of the Polytechnic College was full,  and the spectators dramatically reacted to what was happening on the stage.
